Shetland is meant to introduce basic concepts of baseball to the young children. Players will learn the basics of swinging a bat while hitting a pitched ball, how to throw, and how to catch. Running the bases is reinforced. No score is kept. The ideas of outs is introduced.
If players are six years old, they should join our Shetland program. Parents of players who are five can use their discretion about whether to enroll them in Tee Ball or Shetland. If players have played tee ball once already and are at least five years old, they are likely ready for Shetland. If this is their first time playing baseball, they should probably play Tee Ball.
At registration, Shetland players may choose one weeknight on which they are not available. Every attempt will be made to group players onto teams based on their availability and accommodate schedules. At the Shetland level, there will usually be two activities per week, often one on a weeknight and one on a Saturday, though there will be a few weeks with three activities.
